When I went last year I did not think that was the case, however, if everyone if your cabin takes a long shower and uses the hot water then I can imagine that person might have had a cold shower.
We will also have other activities during the day but they are decided by your camp leader and they could be different than the ones I did last year. Some of the ones I did last year were bird watching, hiking, and investigating a tidal pool.
The bus ride is about an hour and a half. If you wanted to listen to music on the bus that would probably be okay. However, you will not be allowed to carry it around with you during the day. If it rains, I am sure they will alternate activities planned.
If you bring your cell phone you may only use it at night. The rule will be just like if you bring a cell phone to school- if we see it or hear it we take it from you. Be sure to lock your cell phone in the safe in your room. Your chaperone will allow you to get them out to call home, but you will not be texting a friend in another cabin because you will have to go to sleep!
Also if you do not have a cell phone or if you need to contact your home during the day - there is a phone available in the NorthBay office that students can use at anytime (with permission from your chaperone/teacher.
The cabins are pretty new and are cleaned before new groups of students arrive. I did not hear anyone complain about bugs last year, but it is possible- just like bugs can get in your house or apartment!
Are the bathrooms and showers indoors? Because i don't want to have to go outside in a portable and i dont want to wake someone else at night who is tryig to sleep
Is our cabin doing cabin activities? If yes do we have to do the activitie if we don't want to? For example: "I dont want to go on the ropes course or something"
If you do not want to do one of the activities you will simply wait for the other members of your group to complete them and cheer them on! If you are nervous about the ropes course in general you should at least try and even if you take ten steps and want to go back and get off you can! Be adventurous and try something new!
Generally you only travel with your cabin. During the mid afternoon activity time some girl cabins are grouped togeher and some boy cabins are grouped together. So it's not that you are forbidden from talking to eachother, its more like you are in different places.
We don't find out the schedule until we arrive at NorthBay so I do not know if we will have a talent show this year. Last year there was a sign up sheet during lunch.
Are the matresses comfy and soft? Because every year i go to a sleep away camp and i bring an eggcrate to make the matresses softer an my friends said the matresses were not comfy.
This year the sixth graders at Wilde Lake Middle School will have their outdoor education experience at NorthBay, an environmental learning center in North East, MD. During this three day and two night trip the outdoors will be our classroom! The students will be introduced to the field of environmental science through hands-on experiences and will use the environment to learn critical thinking skills. They will also focus on building character and leadership through adventure and discovery.
Do the boys and girls get to eat together? Because a 7th grader who went last year said that we aren't allowed to.
ReplyDeleteGreat question! Last year the students were seated with their cabin. The boys were on one side of the dinning room and the girls were on the other.
ReplyDeletedo we have to bring 3 pairs of shoes or does the old one count as shoes for water?
ReplyDeleteWill it be like that this year, do you know?
ReplyDeleteI assume it will be the same!
ReplyDeleteShould we bring our cell phones, and are we allowed to use cell phones to text our parents and others in the camp any time of the day or evening?

ReplyDeleteI have three questions. How long will the bus ride be, can we bring portable electronics along, and what if it rains the whole time?
ReplyDeleteSomebody told me that Northbay had cold showers...is that true?
ReplyDeleteWhen I went last year I did not think that was the case, however, if everyone if your cabin takes a long shower and uses the hot water then I can imagine that person might have had a cold shower.

ReplyDeleteI heard that girls and boys are not alowed to even talk to each other. Is that correct?
ReplyDeleteIs this camp religious in any way? Because some camps say grace before meals and i am a different religion than that.

ReplyDeleteThe bathrooms and showers are inside your cabin.

ReplyDeleteI can't wait to go to outdoor ed it is going to be so fun! Also is the bathroom outside and are there lights in the cabin?
ReplyDeleteThe bathroom is inside and there are lights in the cabin.
ReplyDeletecan we bring a bag with cards and games to play at north bay and on the bus?
ReplyDeleteWhen is the talent show, because I heard a lot about it but I don't know how to sign up gor it
ReplyDeleteIs there heating in the cabin?
ReplyDeleteA small bag can stay with you on the bus to carry cards and other small objects.
ReplyDeleteAre we going in the water at all?
ReplyDeleteWe don't find out the schedule until we arrive at NorthBay so I do not know if we will have a talent show this year. Last year there was a sign up sheet during lunch.
ReplyDeleteYes there is heat!
ReplyDeleteAre the matresses comfy and soft? Because every year i go to a sleep away camp and i bring an eggcrate to make the matresses softer an my friends said the matresses were not comfy.
ReplyDeleteIs there a fan and a heating system in the cabin?
ReplyDeleteLast year my matress was just fine! After all the fun activities you'll probably fall right asleep and may be too tired to even notice!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if we are going in the water at all since I do not get a schedule until we arrive. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember if there is a fan, but there is heat!
ReplyDeleteWhen we get to camp will we have lunch there? And how much money do we bring for the store?
ReplyDeleteWhen we get to camp they will probably greet us and then you will head to your cabin to drop off your stuff. After that we will be served lunch.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of classes will we be taking?
ReplyDeleteThe amount of money you bring is up to you. You can buy items from the store and the snack shop. Youth t-shirts were around $15 if that helps!
ReplyDeleteWhat the highest price at the shop?
ReplyDeleteI do not know the highest price, sorry!
ReplyDeleteI heard someone say that the girls cabins are near the river and the boys are near the parking lot. Is that right?
ReplyDeleteMake Mrs. Tanner proud- go to this link and read the map to find out where the boy and girl cabins are!
ReplyDeletehttp://northbayadventure.com/Property/Map.asp
The classes will be about the environment. For example, last year we examined clams, vultures, and fish.
